DE TAAL VAN
HET LICHAAM

Experiential workshop

You may occasionally notice that someone shifts restlessly on their chair, or just holds on to the handrails, or that you yourself involuntarily move your feet or lean forward. Our body is always looking for ways to express emotions that have not yet found their words. Often we are quick to interpret with words like nervous, disinterested or shy. But is this true? What worlds lie behind the body that speaks?

In your work, business or organisation, dealing with people is important, you are expected to be able to handle a range of emotions well and with care. This workshop offers a unique insight into all forms of humanity that are not (or cannot be) simply expressed.

During this experiential workshop, you will learn to recognise the language of the body, you will learn how to use the body to help people open the door to an inner world that has not yet been seen or heard. You will walk away with knowledge about body-centred techniques and how you can add a special depth to this in your work.

The confrontation, which is relentless and at the same time loving, which opens the door to that which often remains hidden from the outside world (and from yourself) and that too is lovingly received. The exercises that make tangible, how quickly we fall into analysing mode. A rich experience with a lot of inspiration for my work as a Pessotherapist.’

Theatre and psychology join forces

Actress and theatre-maker Katrien van Beurden has been travelling the world for 25 years, from war zones to volatile modern cities. Together with her international theatre company Troupe Courage, she has developed a new way of doing theatre based on age-old principles. Using this innovative theatre, she explores our humanity and the connection between head and body. This technique ‘makes the body speak’. In 2023, she was knighted for this extraordinary theatre work, bringing enlightenment, humour and humanity to several conflict areas. The link between body and mind is central to her work.

Esther Veldkamp is a GZ psychologist and has experience in both the forensic field and specialist mental health care. She immerses herself in Attachment Based Family Therapy and is an EMDR practitioner and systems therapist. In all these layers, she increasingly discovered the role of the body and decided to look for someone with whom to bring those worlds together. During this workshop, Esther and Katrien will familiarise you with the playfulness of emotions in the body, the many forms of expression the body has and how you can use this body-oriented method in your work.

A day and a journey

Katrien and Esther take you on a surprising, creative and deepening journey through the language of the body and open up a world with you that expands your horizons as a professional and human being. You will be introduced to the psychology of movement, learn how emotions build up physically -from agitation to rage-, discover the power of the playing child and learn to speak the language of the body.

After a day full of impressions and new knowledge, there will be a follow-up discussion with Esther to give the experience a place in awareness and translate it to the practice of your workplace. This session can be scheduled up to two months after the workshop.

And to step completely into the world of Troupe Courage, the day will be dressed up with an extensive Syrian lunch and you will receive a theatre ticket for the next performance.
